Frequently Asked Questions – bUTE Trays

ORDERING A TRAY

When you decide to order a tray through bUTE we try to make things as simple as possible!

Once you have received your estimate and are happy to proceed, all you need to do is give us a call or send us an email and we will get your order finalised.

The minute you give us the go ahead, your order will be placed in the production schedule.

You will receive a final copy of your order as soon as the paperwork is complete (allow a few days), and a 20% deposit will be requested to secure your place in the production schedule.

You will then be notified once your build is complete and ready to install.

Note: please check your order confirmation carefully, once the deposit is paid there is no guarantee we can change the order and amendment fees may apply. If a deposit is not provided you run the risk of being pushed to the back of the que.

SCHEDULING AND TIME FRAMES

Due to the customisation of some builds it is difficult to accurately predict the start and finish date of any product. Upon proceeding with your order you will be given an anticipated start date, however due to many underlying factors please use the time frame given as a GUIDE ONLY. Please also take into consideration Public Holidays that may fall during the build time.

We DO NOT mass produce any of our products. Everything is made to order.

REPLACEMENTS, REPAIRS OR ADDITIONAL PRODUCTS FOR A BUTE TRAY

If you are interested in ordering replacement/additional products or repairs for your existing Bute Tray please be prepared to visit our workshop for a consultation. Our products are tailor made for each build and therefore not identical to every tray. Most requests will result in us needing access to the vehicle for a simple measure up or potential time in the workshop.

Anything made/delivered incorrectly as a result of written or verbally produced information by the customer will incur additional charges to correct/remake if requested. You may also face more potential delays.

Please call to book an appointment to speak with one of our workshop staff for any additions or repairs to your current set up. Our workshop crew are very busy so please don’t be offended if there is no one available to speak with you if you show up without notice.

REPLACEMENTS, REPAIRS OR ADDITIONAL PRODUCTS FOR OTHER TRAYS

If you are seeking additional items, repairs or replacement pieces for a tray that is not built by Bute, you will be advised to return to your trays manufacturer.

We prefer to work on our own products and our lead times for this type of work would be substantially long.

DO YOU NEED MY VEHICLE FOR THE BUILD PROCESS?

It’s best if we do, as all trays or accessories we provide are custom made and designed to suit your specific vehicle. We generally only need it for the day.

Most of the newer vehicle trays can be produced without the car, particularly if it is a cab chassis.

Anyone requiring a tipper tray will need to produce their car for a minimum of 1-2 weeks in order to complete the tipper framework before the tray build can begin.

If you require a tipper for an existing tray your vehicle will only be required for approx. 3-5 days.

Whether you are buying a new tray from us or reusing your current tray, the vehicle is required in our workshop.

COST OF INSTALLATION AND TUB/TRAY REMOVAL

Installation at our Epsom site is charged at a flat rate of $450.  *T&Cs apply.

Get your tray installed by our team of professionals in order to receive your full warranty – no exclusions. 

*Additional fees will be incurred for larger vehicles e.g F250, RAM, GMC, LandCruiser etc.

HOW LONG DOES INSTALLATION TAKE?

We ask that vehicles are delivered to us between 8-8.30am the morning of installation, if necessary the vehicle can be delivered the afternoon prior to installation. Pickup will be prior to 4pm that same afternoon.

Please keep in mind we may have multiple installations on the same day and you will be contacted to collect your vehicle once complete. All vehicles will need to be collected before close of business unless alternative arrangements are made. We are only open weekdays so please be prepared.

IMPORTANT: Please ensure that your vehicle is free from excessive mud or dirt when delivering your vehicle for installation. There will be additional fees and longer wait times if we are required to clean your vehicle in order to remove a tub/tray.

Excessive aftermarket wiring may also cause some delays and potential fees depending on the impact – please let us know so we can allocate bookings accordingly.

We do not have an auto electrician on site.

WHAT HAPPENS TO MY TUB/TRAY AFTER INSTALLATION?

Please ensure you bring a trailer and some pallets with you if you are intending on taking your tub/tray home after installation. If you decide to leave your tub/tray on the premises it will become bUTE property if not collected within 7 days.

PRICE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN STEEL AND ALUMINIUM

We charge Aluminium products at an increased rate of 20% compared to Steel.

WHY IS ALUMINIUM MORE EXPENSIVE?

The cost of Aluminium from the supplier is considerably more expensive than Steel. Aluminium is a light weight alternative to our Steel products. It is fully welded and not like other imported versions that are bolted together. Can you tell the difference between an Aluminium tray and a Steel tray? CANVAS KITS

Our Canvas Kits are the manufacture and supply of the framework for a canvas cover.

Bute Trays do not supply the canvas material with this kit, it only includes the rear hurdle to match your chosen front hurdle and the bar work to support the canvas. This framework is removable.

You can choose to source your own canvas supplier, or we can organise this for you.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN SILVER AND GOLD SERIES TRAYS?

In a nut shell, the Gold Series tray gives you heavy duty tie rails and custom look window protection with a stronger, contoured front panel. You still have the option to choose your preference of mesh or bars. Besides these features, it comes with the same standard inclusions as the Silver Series and has the same available upgrades and accessories.

UNDER TRAY DRAWERS

You really do get what you pay for! Our under tray drawers come complete inside their very own carcass. They are dust proof, water proof complete with rubber seal. They are key locked, feature heavy duty sliders that run the length of the drawer allowing full access and can support the weight of all your items when fully extended.

Our standard drawer dimensions are 800mm wide x 120mm (170mm external) depth x 1600mm (dual cab) or 1800mm (space and single cabs) length. Your drawer can be customised in terms of depth however if a specific drawer depth is not advised, it will be made to our standard specs (120mm or 150mm internal depending on tail lights).

Note: The depth of the drawer in most cases WILL impact the height of the tray, some vehicles have more room than others.

Your drawer length will be significantly impacted if you choose to include an under tray battery box and/or poly water tank in your build. Drawer length will be made to accommodate these items.

CAN I FIT A POLY WATER TANK, BATTERY BOX AND FULL LENGTH DRAWER UNDERNEATH MY TRAY?

NO. There is only so much space under the tray and unfortunately we cannot fit everything! But there are other alternative options:

  • The poly water tank will fit at a cost of shortening the drawer to approximately 1000mm. This will vary on different vehicles. If you choose to go down this path, please also consider our under tray shelf since it is fully accessible at this length and has potential cost savings of approx. $700.00 incl GST.
  • A battery box will fit with the drawer, only slightly impacting its length.

The BEST option is to add a water tank behind the rear wheels, these water tanks are shaped the same as our under tray toolboxes and are easily accessible.

SMALL (STANDARD) VS LARGE (CUSTOM) UNDER TRAY TOOLBOXES

Our standard under tray toolboxes come as a one size fits all. They are 650mm length x 450mm height and you can choose either a square or angled profile.

Our custom under tray toolboxes are custom made to fit between the wheel guard and the back of the tray. They are bigger/longer than the standard toolboxes and size will vary depending on the vehicle and customer requirements.

The width of both under tray toolboxes is generally 240mm, vehicle dependant.

REVERSE CAMERAS, REVERSE SENSORS AND CROSS TRAFFIC SENSORS

We DO NOT supply reverse cameras or reverse sensors.

We DO relocate any existing camera and/or sensors if your vehicle has them. The sensors are built into the tray underneath the tail lights and the reverse camera and cross traffic sensors at mounted accordingly.

DO YOU PAINT OR POWDER COAT YOUR PRODUCTS?

We powder coat and zinc prime our products in house at our workshop. We have a variety of colours/shades to choose from and most of these selections are included with the service. Some colours may require a clear coat which is an additional cost. Check out our Tray Colours page in our Gallery for some examples of our colours.

We are also happy to sandblast, prep and prime our products if you would prefer to have it painted else where.

These widths are based on standard tyre sizes.

The Patrol width can be decreased to 1900mm with the exclusion of side tie rails. All other vehicles may decrease the width by 100mm but must consider the additional expenses in upgrading to 3D guards which are required. A tray that is not the recommended width will also sacrifice the standard depth of under tray toolboxes.

DO YOU MANUFACTURE WATER/FUEL TANKS IN YOUR HEADBOARDS?

Unfortunately we have stopped producing water tanks and fuel tanks in the front headboards of our trays.

We no longer do them on request.

DO YOU HAVE PRODUCTS ON DISPLAY?

Unfortunately our workshop is not equipped with a show room or any type of display for our trays and canopies. If you would like to visit us, please ring to book an appointment to ensure the appropriate team member is available to meet with you. You may be able to see what the crew are currently working on or installing at the time.

ARE THERE ANY PRICE LISTS OR BROCHURES AVAILABLE TO THE PUBLIC?

At this point in time, no.

We are currently in the process of improving our marketing aspects of the business. As soon as we have such items available we will definitely spread the word!

In the mean time, we are constantly adding and improving our website. We want to give you as much information as possible to fill out our quote form which is soon to be updated! Stay tuned!

BUTE TRAYS TERMS AND CONDITIONS

ESTIMATE FORM

Estimates are required for all costings prior to ordering, these are valid for 30 days and can be submitted via our website.

-A customer name, email and contact number is a requirement for Bute Trays records.

-Vehicle availability is required as a way for us to schedule your build time frame appropriately, please keep us updated on any delays to the vehicles arrival if purchasing from new, to minimise delays our end if we need to reschedule your build.

-Tyre size/width (not rim size) is a requirement to ensure our standard guards are appropriate or to determine if you will need to upgrade. Changing tyre size later may require guard replacement.

-Stock numbers (new vehicles) or Registration numbers (used vehicles) are also a requirement to ensure we are fitting trays to correct vehicles, as well as for record keeping.

-Please check your estimate carefully before accepting and ensure the details are correct. Incorrect or missing items will require new costings.

 

ORDERING

-To place your order, please speak with our sales staff.

-An order confirmations will be emailed to you once the order has been officially scheduled in our system for manufacture.

-A deposit, along with our estimate number clearly noted, needs to be supplied within 7 days of receiving your order confirmation.

 

DEPOSITS

-We require a 20% deposit to be paid as approval for your order, this deposit will secure your costs and a position in our production schedule.

-Deposits that are not received within 7 days will be placed at the end of the queue until payment is received.

-Bute Trays takes no responsibility in build delays caused by deposits that are not provided in time.

-You can find our bank details at the bottom of your order confirmation.

-Accounts will notify you once the payment is received and supply you with a receipt.

-If you have any issues making a payment please contact the office on (03) 5448 8285.

 

NEWLY PURCHASED VEHICLE DELAYS

-Products will not be manufactured if the vehicle is not available in time for installation.

-Alternatively, products can be produced and delivered/collected prior to the vehicle’s arrival, however, installation by Bute will not be available and will need to be carried out by the dealership.

 

EST BUILD WEEK

This is not your booking date.

-Please use the BUILD WEEK date on your order confirmation as a guide only, it is subject to change without notice.

-You will be notified via email when your order is due to begin production.

-Build times will vary, however please allow approx. 2-3 weeks for your order to be completed once begun.

-All builds, big and small, go through the same process/production line, we will contact you once it is signed off for release.

-All builds are scheduled to begin in the earliest time slot possible, largely based on the vehicle’s availability.

 

ORDER AMENDMENTS

-Orders will be officially CLOSED to any amendments on the BUILD WEEK date provided.

-A surcharge of $250.00 will apply to any major change made during the pre-production period, however, there are no guarantees changes can be made once production begins.

-Any adjustments made by the dealership, our mutual client and/or bUTE Trays after receiving the order confirmation will be charged accordingly.

 

CANCELLATIONS

-Any order cancelled prior to manufacture will incur a 25% deduction on the refundable amount of the deposit.

-Any orders cancelled during production will incur 100% loss of funds.

 

INSTALLATIONS/BOOKINGS

-Bookings for installation will not be made prior to the manufacture of an order, due to too many variables, including but not limited to staffing, suppliers, machinery, and even weather.

-One of our sales staff will notify you when your order has been checked and cleared for installation, along with the next available date to complete the install.

 

INVOICING/PAYMENT TERMS

-The final invoice will be supplied to you when your booking for installation or collection has been confirmed.

-Your final invoice is required to be paid in full prior to your arrival.

-We do have EFTPOS facilities available on site, please feel free to call our office if you wish to make a payment over the phone. A surcharge of 1.23% is applicable.

-If paying by cash, please have correct change at time of payment.

-Please ensure to email your banking receipt of payment to accounts@butetrays.com.au when paying via bank transfer.

-Orders will not be released into your possession until payment has been made or proof of payment is received.

BUTE TRAYS WARRANTY

PRODUCT WARRANTY

Bute Tray products are guaranteed against failure, under normal working conditions for 2 years from date of supply.

This does NOT cover:

  • Normal wear and tear
  • General maintenance neglect
  • Accidental or malicious damage
  • Use of improper cleaning products
  • Incorrect fitment by someone other than Bute Trays

Our powder coating is of a normal commercial standard and colour variations may occur.

We guarantee powder coated surfaces for 12 months from date of application.

This does NOT cover:

  • Discolouration
  • Stone chips
  • Chemicals or sealant damage
  • Salt spray
  • Industrial fallout
  • Animal droppings
  • General aging or misuse

Disclaimer: Tray Bolts must be checked by the customer or dealership within 30 days of fitment.  

Bute Trays hold no responsibility for damages caused by and/or related to general loosening or wearing in of tray bolts.
